Frequently Asked Questions

Expert answers to your fastener weight calculation and shipping queries

How is the weight of a fastener calculated?

The weight is calculated based on the theoretical volume of the fastener (determined by its standard DIN/ISO dimensions, including head size, thread length, and shank) multiplied by the density of the selected material. Our tool automates this complex geometric calculation for you instantly.

How much does material affect the weight of bolts and nuts?

Material plays a crucial role. For example, standard Carbon Steel and Stainless Steel (304/316) have a similar density of around 7.8 - 8.0 g/cm³. However, Brass is heavier (approx. 8.5 g/cm³), while Aluminum is incredibly light, weighing about 1/3 of a steel bolt of the exact same size.

Are the calculated weights 100% exact for shipping?

Our calculator provides highly accurate theoretical weights based on standard specifications. However, in actual mass production, there is always a standard manufacturing tolerance (usually ±3% to 5%). Additionally, surface treatments (like Hot Dip Galvanized or Zinc Plating) can add a slight amount of weight. We recommend adding a small buffer when estimating freight costs.

Does the total weight include packaging (cartons and pallets)?

No, the calculator strictly provides the Net Weight (NW) of the fasteners themselves. For Gross Weight (GW) estimation, you should account for packaging. Typically, a standard export carton holds 20-25 kg of fasteners, and a wooden pallet adds around 15-20 kg.

What if I need to calculate the weight for a custom fastener or a standard not listed here?

If you are looking for non-standard parts, custom drawings (OEM), or specific standards not yet featured in our tool, our engineering team is here to help! Contact us directly with your specifications, and we will provide an accurate weight estimation and a competitive quote within 48 hours.
